Genre Research I

For my genre research I watched the opening sequence from the movie, Olympus Has Fallen from my genre research I know that Action spy movies use editing music and shot type variations to manipulate the audience into getting a surge of Adrenaline.

This means we will also try to add the pleonastic sounds, the ranging shot types to improve the audiences experience.

I also now know the basic conventions used in the genre for example in an action movie there is usually a hero and a villain in a spy movie the hero is usually extremely talented in combat like wise the villain which will make for a good end fight scene to save the day.

If there is a victim or a kidnapped character it usually is a woman as the connotations of women in the genre are innocent, vulnerable and weak which makes the audience root for the good guy as they are saving the woman.

Our victim in the film is a male because it goes against the conventions which will make it more engaging and entertaining for the audience.

The Pitch (summary)

The brief that we were given was one preliminary task, to produce a short sequence of shots were a character is walking down a corridor opens a door and then sits down and has a conversation, we need to include 180 degree rule the reverse shot and a range of angles.
We also need to do the main task, which is to create a 2 minute opening sequence on the genre of our choice.

This is the pitch for our main task.

We have done some research on the genre of spy/ action and i decided to watch and analyse the opening scene from the movie Olympus Has Fallen from the opening scene i have gained a wider view and knowledge of how the different shot types, costumes, lighting and all the different signs can create a totally different opening scene.

The title that we all agreed on was The Hunt.

The target audience is going to be 16-30 years old as it action based and contains violence.

From my research, we have decided to go with the spy-action genre. The opening scene will start with a man(the protagonist) sitting on his couch watching the news when a breaking news story comes on, the prime ministers son has been kidnapped, the protagonist gets a call from the head of MI5 and the caller says "its time to come out of retirement", The scene will be mostly close ups and extreme close ups to create a mysterious affect, for the audience. The title scene then plays and we are going for a James Bond styled title sequence. The final part will be the first time we seE the whole of the protagonists face as he loads a gun and exits the house.
